Equivalent Parallel Strands Modeling of Highly-Porous Media for Two-Dimensional Heat Transfer: Application to Metal Foam

چکیده

A new geometric modeling of isotropic highly-porous cellular media, e.g., open-cell metal, ceramic, and graphite foams, is developed. The modelling valid strictly for macroscopically two-dimensional heat transfer due to the fluid flow in media. Unlike current geometrical such model employs simple geometry, derived from equivalency conditions that are imposed on model’s geometry a priori, order ensure produces same pressure drop as porous medium it represents. embodies internal structure metal foam, using equivalent parallel strands (EPS), which rods arranged spatially periodic pattern. dimensions these their arrangement conditions, ensuring porosity surface area density foam indeed equal. In obtain results, governing equations solved geometrically-simple EPS model, instead complex foam. By virtue strands, huge savings computational time cost realized. application approach provided. It shows how an obtained actual with known morphology. Predictions compared experimental data literature. predicted local temperatures found be very good agreement counterparts, maximum error less than 11%. follows Forchheimer equation.

A Numerical Modeling for Natural Convection Heat Transfer in Porous Media With Generated Internal Heat Sources

In this paper a numerical method is used to study the unsteady state natural convection heat transfer within a confined porous media with uniform internal heat generation. The governing equations based on the Darcy model and Bossiness approximations are solved, using the finite difference Alternating Direction Implicit (ADI) method. The developed program was used to simulate natural convection ...

Heat Transfer in Porous Media

In this work, the effects of electrical double layer (EDL) near the solid/ liquid interface, on three dimensional heat transfer characteristic and pressure drop of water flow through a rectangular microchannel numerically are investigated. An additional body force originating from the existence of EDL is considered to modify the conventional Navier-stokes and energy equations. These modified eq...

Comparison of Thermal Dispersion Effects for Single and two Phase Analysis of Heat Transfer in Porous Media

The present work involves numerical simulation of a steady, incompressible forcedconvection fluid flow through a matrix of porous media between two parallel plates at constanttemperature. A Darcy model for the momentum equation was employed. The mathematical model forenergy transport was based on single phase equation model which assumes local thermal equilibriumbetween fluid and solid phases. ...
